Projects in China
Facilitating progress in the Far East

In the next ten years, we will be setting aside a total of five million euros to support five chairs at Chinese universities with the aim of promoting technologies for energy efficiency and renewable energies. Key focal points will be electromobility, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaics. In this way, we are working with Chinese partners to drive forward the development of environmentally friendly technologies.

In Shanghai, we are supporting Tongji University, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Fudan University – three top universities with an international flair. We are promoting the development of various components for electric cars, such as regenerative braking systems and power electronics. What’s more, Shanghai is the right address when it comes to mobility, because the city is home to the International Automobile City.

Silicon, please!

Alongside Fudan University, Tsinghua University in Beijing is also tackling a central challenge in the field of electromobility – how to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries. The goal is to develop a solution that can be installed as standard in electric cars. Silicon solar cells are one possible solution on which the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing is working with support from Bosch. For example, the scientists here are investigating how to increase the efficiency of photovoltaic materials so as to better utilize solar power in the future.
